Outfit: Ross special, as I sort of forgot to bring a change of clothes from work. I thought I looked classy.
Plan: Drinks at Shorebird bar and grill in Waikiki
Outcome: It was fun! We drank too much, then got ramen at this super authentic Japanese noodle house. They didn't even speak English! I like that. He ordered for me because I kind of like that, and it was great. At the end of the night, I contributed to the bar tab and he picked up ramen and drive me home. I thought that was successful, even though he wanted to stay over for a while and I had to kick him out after he used the restroom. Midnight on a school night? Nope, this classy lady said goodnight, locked the door, and went to bed!
Although he was shorter than he stated and again, military, his interests are intriguing and the conversation was fluid. He likes to scuba and skydive, and he lived over in Germany when he was a kid. He has traveled a lot and wants to go to Bora Bora and India, which are vastly different travel trips, so that's pretty cool :) he tells good stories. I found out a lot about him in a few hours, so I must've asked the right questions. His parents are high school sweethearts and they live in Georgia. After he had a few drinks, his southern accent started surfacing, which is, of course, charming. It makes me wonder if my Minnesota accent becomes more pronounced after a few? He is a middle child with two sisters and a brother, and his sisters are wedding planners for a family business. His parents are retired, but his father was military and his mother helped soldiers transitioning after returning from the Vietnam war. I bet his mom is really sweet :)
Since he works from home and his platoon(?) is stationed in San Diego, I believe he is high enough up the ladder to have some sort of specialty position working with renewable energy. It's still a bit mysterious. He's as good as I am about deflecting topics when he doesn't feel like talking about them, so that was interesting. I'm curious about him and plan to sit back and wait for him to move his chess piece.
Update: 4/14/14
No contact from this guy past the date after the date. If he's playing chess, he is either a really hard thinker or I was more interested than he was. As the dating advice goes, his actions speak louder than his words. Life goes on.
